A Note From Our Founder: Angeli Jackson
Reflecting on the British Fashion Awards, Angeli Jackson, our founder at SunSibility, shares her personal insights and experiences from the event. Her journey from a young graduate of The London College of Fashion to the helm of SunSibility is a story of passion, innovation, and dedication.
“Having graduated from The London College of Fashion and being the youngest on my course at just 21 in 2000, I began my journey into SunSibility after receiving a start-up loan from The Prince’s Trust. A chance meeting with an amazing photographer at the awards made me realise how long I’ve been in the business. He told me the year I graduated was the year he was born! It made me laugh and feel very old but proud that I have dedicated half my life to encouraging sun protection and making it the norm, crossing the barriers from medical over to beauty and fashion.
Now more than ever, we are aware of the effects of UV rays, but generally, self-care and being recognized for our style, practicality, and simply merging the lines between function and fashion is something that, at the time, my college told me was not commercially viable. I had a very different and forward-thinking idea and was determined there was a market for our products.
I have worked tirelessly, and it is true what Edward Enninful said in his acceptance speech for the Trailblazer Award, ‘Fear Nothing, Fear No-one, Believe in yourself and do things your way.’ I could identify so much with that sentiment… I cried… because I know the journey I have been on and it has had its many challenges. But for my customers, for those who are sun sensitive, all I ever wanted to do was find solutions, make life easier, and keep working for what I truly believed in. There is a need for what we do, and I wouldn’t and will never give up because I truly believe in achieving these goals. Who knows, maybe one day Angeli Jackson will get an award for recognition, one can only dream, but dreams do come true with hard work and persistence!
It was an amazing night celebrating those at the forefront of fashion today, inspiring and motivational. I just have to keep climbing because my motto in life has always been, ‘You can do anything you want to in life when you put your mind to it.’
Valentino’s iconic show in red was phenomenal, every design simply stunning. He knew women so well it gave me goosebumps, what an incredible talent and asset to the industry, understanding your customers’ wants and needs is paramount and fundamental.
I would like to thank The British Council for a fantastic and memorable evening and to all that were celebrated and the fantastic people attending the event, looking forward to next year already!”
