SUNSIBILITY is featured in CHAPTER 6

Physical barriers to protect humans from solar UV radiation exposure

Abstract

Chapter 6 looks at physical interventions, such as shade and clothing, for limiting and controlling our exposure to solar UV. Shade can be natural, e.g. trees, or manmade, e.g. canopies and awnings.

Factors in the design of shade structures, together with how we can estimate protection from shade are covered. Issues around clothing such as the nature of fabric, UV protection standards for clothing, and the changing fashion for summer clothing are discussed, and the chapter ends with a brief discussion of sunglasses and other types of optical filter and how by combining protection modalities we can significantly increase photo protection.
